Long story short: I just love pizza!


Hi! I'm Scottie. I was born in Brooklyn, where you can get a decent slice of pizza on nearly every street corner. When I was a kid my mom and I moved to New Mexico, and the thing I missed most about New York (other than my dad) was the pizza. My first job was at age 14 at my neighborhood's Italian restaurant called Luigi's, where Luigi Napolitano himself taught me the ways of the dough. Long after working at Luigi's, and frustrated with the scarcity of good pizza options in Albuquerque, I decided to learn how to make pizza myself.


As I began combing through books, YouTube videos, pizza blogs, and even an online discussion forum dedicated to pizzamaking, I learned that pizza is so much more than meets the eye, and I was hooked!


In 2010 my wife Amy and I moved to New Haven, Connecticut, the unsung historic pizza capital of the US. Being back on the east coast reignited my passion for pizza, and I got a gig making wood-fired pizzas for volunteers on an urban farm. We moved out here in 2012 when Amy was accepted to a PhD program at Portland State, and before I knew it I was splitting my time between Handsome Pizza and the freshly opened East Glisan Pizza Lounge. I knew by then that I wanted to open my own pizzeria, so I started writing a business plan, and... I suppose the rest is history!


The pizza my coworkers and I make today is the culmination of thousands of hours of research, experimentation, formula-tweaking, and note-taking, and all of us at Scottie's are still constantly chasing that perfect slice.

That's me in 2010 in our tiny New Haven apartment making the biggest pizzas that would fit in our tiny little oven!
